Important Inspection Information

Building inspections are available during the afternoon (12:30-4:30) Monday through Friday. Morning inspections (8-12) are available on Tuesdays only. Please note that inspections are not available on Federal holidays. Inspections must be requested by 4 p.m. on the day before the preferred inspection date by calling Village Hall at 847-251-1666. Same-day re-inspections are not available.

Engineering inspections for drainage and grading projects, as-built reviews, or any other required inspections are scheduled for Wednesdays ONLY. To coordinate an engineering inspection please call 847-251-1666 ext. 5253

  • Implements zoning regulations
  • Implements building codes
  • Implements Planning guidelines
  • Implements other Village codes as they relate to the built environment

The Department's functions include:

  • Review of building permit applications for all building projects and other structures
  • Zoning reviews and building plan reviews to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Issuance of building permits
  • Code enforcement and inspections of projects under construction
  • Review of tree removal applications and issuance of tree permits

Serves as the Liaison to:

  • Zoning Board of Appeals
  • Plan Commission
  • Architectural Review Commission
  • Building Review Commission
  • The Building, Planning, and Zoning Committee of the Village Board

Information for Contractors

Contractors are not required to be registered with the Village.

If your project requires electrical, plumbing, or roofing work, the Village requires the following item(s) to be submitted with your application:

  • Roofing License
  • Electrical License
  • Plumbing License/Registration (055 and 058), and Letter of Intent
