Job Opportunity: Kenilworth Beach Lifeguard for Summer 2026
The Village of Kenilworth is seeking qualified candidates to fill several part-time, seasonal Beach Lifeguard positions. Kenilworth Beach is a public beach that is open to all residents & non-residents with the purchase of a season pass. Lifeguards will provide beachgoers with a safe, high-level experience through enforcement of beach rules on land and in the water, and oversight of the equipment, grounds and facilities. Lifeguards will report directly to the Beach Manager.
Compensation for this position is $16.00-$22.00/hour, commensurate with relevant experience and availability.
Responsibilities of the Lifeguards include:
- Enforcing all beach rules and procedures. Safety of patrons and staff is top priority.
- Responding to emergencies and performing appropriate follow-up procedures, including the performance of first aid when necessary.
- Providing a high level of customer service to beach patrons and setting an example for staff by being responsive and friendly.
- Providing feedback to Village staff on the effectiveness of new amenities, suggesting improvements where necessary.
- Checking season beach passes.
- Ensuring facilities are presentable to beach patrons, which include but are not limited to maintaining the cleanliness of the beach, walkways, bathrooms, and guard shack. Communicate maintenance issues to the Beach Manager in a timely manner.
- Recording daily attendance and other relevant data points, as requested.
- Assisting patrons with beach amenities and answering questions.
- Other duties as assigned by the Beach Manager.
Candidates must be available to work a combination of weekday and weekend shifts. Staffed beach hours are from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. from Saturday, May 23rd through Monday, September 7th. The beach is open during all summer holidays.
Qualifications:
- American Red Cross Certification in lifeguarding (open water)/first aid/AED/CPR by May 22, 2026, and certificate is valid through Monday, September 7, 2026.
- Proficient swimmers in open water, able to run long distances, and assist in lifting a person.
- Have high energy, excellent customer service skills, and be an effective communicator.
- Must be available for training in early May and work through Monday, September 7th with opportunities for additional shifts in September (weather depending).
