Due to the abrupt end of fall and early snow this year, a significant amount of leaves were buried by the snow and were unable to be collected and disposed of. With the brief reprieve of winter weather, the Public Works Department will be performing a special leaf collection from Monday, January 12th, to Monday, January 26th, for those who were left with leaves and yard waste to clean up.
To participate in the special collection, please bag your leaves and bring them out to your curb. Yard waste stickers are not required to participate in the special collection. Once bagged, please contact Public Works Superintendent, Donny Leicht, at 847-251-9210 or info@vok.org to schedule collection. Please leave your name and address, and the Public Works crews will be by to collect your leaves.
Leaf Collection Alternatives
As an alternative to disposing of your leaves through collection, you can also rake leaves into your garden beds or mulch fallen leaves and mix with other yard waste to create a rich compost. Leaves support healthy soil and trees. How to: If conditions permit, rake leaves into landscape beds or around trees, leaving a small “donut” of open space around the trunk. Apply leaf mulch to a depth of approximately four inches. Leaf mulch improves soil health, adds nutrients, and helps suppress weeds. Your lawn will thank you!
